Common questions

Where does Dead Weed work?

We serve Fort St. John, Taylor, Charlie Lake and nearby Peace Region homes when the route has space.

Why only five plan rounds?

Our local growing season is short. We schedule five useful rounds instead of adding visits that do not help.

Do I need to be home?

Usually not. Unlock the gate and clear the work area. We will text you about the visit.

Can I get a commercial quote?

Yes. We make a separate quote for leases, work yards, rights of way and managed grounds.

Are the prices final?

Your estimate shows the price for your property, the work included and any extras you choose before you buy.

What does it cost?

A one-time treatment starts at $65 and goes up with the size of your lawn. Put your address into the online estimate and you'll have your exact number in minutes. Nobody has to come out to price it.

Will it kill my grass?

No. The spray is selective. It goes after broadleaf weeds and leaves grass alone, and we mix it at label rate for the size of your lawn.

How many treatments will I need?

Most lawns clear with one. Heavy thistle or dandelion needs a second pass a few weeks later, and we tell you which one you've got before we spray. If they come back after a treatment, that re-spray is free.

When can my kids and dogs go back on the lawn?

Once the grass is dry. We text you when the spray is done and tell you how long that takes that day.

Do I have to sign up for a season plan?

No. Book one treatment if that's all you want. Nothing renews on you. Plenty of people spray once in June and call it good.

How do you know it's bugs and not drought?

We pull the turf back at the edge of the patch and look at the root zone. Grubs and chinch bugs are right there when they are there. If we don't find any, we tell you, and we tell you what we think is really killing the grass.

Will the brown grass turn green again?

Not overnight. Killing the insect stops the damage, then the lawn fills the patch in with new growth over the following weeks. Chewed-out spots sometimes need seed on top. We will tell you if yours does.

Is it safe for my kids and the dog?

Keep everyone off the lawn until it is dry. After that it is a lawn again. We message you when we finish, so you know when the clock started.

What if the patch keeps spreading after you spray?

Call 250-793-9031 and we come re-spray it free. No contract, no argument.

Do I still have to water it?

Yes. Fertilizer needs water to get down to the roots. Water deep a couple of times a week in a dry stretch instead of a little bit every day.

Will it burn my lawn?

No. We put down the rate your measured lawn calls for, not whatever's left in the bag. Burn comes from over-applying by hand.

Is it safe for the kids and the dog?

Keep them off until you've watered it in and the grass is dry. After that, use the lawn like normal.

Can I just do one feeding?

You can, and it'll green up. It won't thicken much — that takes feeding through the season. We'll do it either way.

What does aeration cost?

It's priced by the size of your lawn. Put your address into the estimate on this page and you'll see your exact number in minutes. Nobody has to come out and walk your yard first.

When's the best time to aerate up here?

Spring, once the ground has thawed and dried out, or late summer into early fall. Fall is our favourite — cool nights and less weed pressure mean new seed takes better.

Do I have to rake up the plugs?

No. Leave them where they land. They break down in about two weeks and feed the lawn as they go.

Will my lawn look torn up after?

For a few days it looks like a flock of geese walked through it. Then the plugs melt in and you can't tell we were there, except the grass gets thicker.

Should I overseed at the same time?

Yes. Seed has to touch soil to grow, and open holes are the best contact it will get all year. Add overseeding to your estimate and we put the seed down the same day we aerate.

Will this get rid of every mosquito?

No, and anyone who tells you yes is selling you something. We knock the population in your yard down far enough that you can sit outside after 7 without swatting. If you can't, we come back free.

Can you treat before a party or a wedding?

Yes. Call 250-793-9031 a couple of days ahead and we spray before it. The earlier you call, the easier the date is to hit.
